I know this may sound smug but I love living in Brighton.
I love this place even more so during Pride. Nowadays I don’t really take part in the major celebrations. Generally its a get together round my best friends place, drinking a few (well, I say a few) cocktails and dancing to a playlist mainly made up of Madonna, Kylie and anything 80’s. Aside from the celebrations, I love Pride because for me its about love, equality, acceptance and being proud of who you are. I also love the fact that everyone in Brighton gets involved, celebrating and uniting in this very important, special and fabulous event.
Talking of celebrations, a party wouldn’t be quite complete without Brighton Gin. This year they have released Limited Edition Pride bottles in 8 colour and letter variations. The labels’ colours are made up of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet which reflect the original colours of the iconic Gay Pride Rainbow Flag. Marking its 40th anniversary this year where it was first used at San Francisco Gay Pride 1978.
The best bit about these limited edition bottles is that a minimum of £2 from every bottle will be donated to The Rainbow Fund, a Brighton and Hove based grant-giving fund for local LGBT and HIV/AIDS organisations. The charity was set up by Gscene editor, James Ledward, and Councillor, Paul Elgood. It followed the fundraising for the City’s ground-breaking AIDS Memorial to provide a living legacy for the project.
The 8 different labels align with the original meanings of the Gay Pride flag colours. They reflect the values of sexuality, life, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony and spirit.
I toast to that every time because thats just amazing! And what would one toast it with darling? A large glass of Brighton Gin obvs.
